Picture
colorway: Biancabella
The newest edition to the TurtleDove Yarns family is such a special yarn I cannot seem to find the right name...
So, I am employing the bright minds of all you creative people to help me come up with a name that both adheres to TDYs m.o. and does justice to this very special yarn.
It is a super soft blend of Merino, Cashmere & a bit of Nylon for strength.  It is a true lux sock yarn!

Picture
colorway: Sochi
There are no rules, just submit a comment with a name, any name, could be your own name, and as many entries as you'd like.   If I choose the name you submit, you will receive a free skein of this stuff in your choice of these two colorways, Biancabella which is the pink & purple jewel toned skein, or Sochi, a blend of navy blues, rusted orange, deep emerald and cocoa.    enjoy!!!

****I am currently busy dying a bunch of this yarn & it will be available here asap.  thanks!! ******

Well, I hate to say it, but have you considered Condor?

That's about only half joking.

Mockingbird would be lovely, I think.

Well...I do love the birdie theme, so might I suggest Titmouse? It's like kumquat - you can't help but giggle when you say it!

Dang it!!! I wanted Mockingbird. Oh Emily you totally beat me to it. Now I have to come up with something just as awesome. Unless of course Condor was your guess. Which is it, condor or mockingbird? Or can you put two in one post? This is blowing my mind.

this may seem silly but how about :"Shah Tooche",
it's the name of bird from Kashmir, The bird is the size of a raven and hops around the underbrush. As it hops around, the fiber between it's feathers get caught on the branches.

That fiber ends up being collected and turned into yarn that is then women into really expensive and luxurious cloth .

I am confused. Where is the yarn?

I can't give it an appropriate name if I can't see it.

Its hard enough to do it without touching and smelling it (yeah, I like how yarn smells - got a problem with it)?

So someone take my hand as I get off the short bus and show me the yarn,.

Mary

keep 'em coming!!

*and for those of you who can't find the yarn or don't know what you are trying to create a name for, maybe you can revisit the blog. there are 2 pictures of yarn, one of which will be sent to the winner of this competition. Those yarns have colorway names written under the picture, Biancabella & Sochi.
We're aiming to name the yarn line itself, like Pigeon Sock, RareBird Lace, Magpie Sock - those are our current lines. This is a brand new yarn & it needs a name. Thanks so much for your participation!!

Hmm. On a more serious note, I've been thinking a lot about Roadrunner. I guess because they run. On their feet. Where socks would go if birds wore socks.

Or, if we're talking about desert birds, how about my home state's state bird, the Cactus Wren (because if there's one thing that would make standing on a cactus more bearable, it'd be wearing luxurious handknit socks)?

Or my other home state's state bird, the Valley Quail (which is really cute!)

Since that yarn is absolutely luxurious for a sock yarn (yummy!) my suggestion has to be "Paradise" in reference to the spectacular Birds of Paradise:

Turtles may not be so popular in yarn base names. Here are my real entries:
gnatcatcher (so cute)
partridge (so 70's)
osprey (let you know water is near)
merlin (yes, the bird and also magical)
ibis (white, soft, elegant)
kinglet (one of my favorite seasonal visitors to our yard)
vireo (just a pretty name)
scrub jay (threatened species native to Florida: http://www.ecofloridamag.com/archived/scrub_jay.htm)

Sorry for so many... I did narrow this down from a list of 20.

The yarns remind me of the colors at dusk, so I'm thinking a night time theme...

I'd go with
Evening Doves
Dusky sparrows
Rock Doves
or
Night Flight yarns

Columbidae line - They are a family of doves that are really pretty - some pics here:

or
Silky Flycatchers (it just makes me smile to think what the variety of colors would be here)

love the colors!

How about naming it after the martlet? It's a mythical footless bird with a cool heraldic history -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martlet

It's linked to both the "constant quest for knowledge and learning" and is "a symbol of hard work, perseverance, and a nomadic household".
